Join us for a special afternoon of jamming, family-friendly fun, and bluegrass music to celebrate the release of the long-awaited new CD by Riley Gilbreath entitled Time Takes a Toll! Morningside is the special guest. Jamming starts about 2p at the beautiful Spring Creek Tabernacle south of Weatherford, so come out and enjoy a great afternoon! Bring your instruments and be ready to jam!
This show is FREE – no ticket required. Copies of Riley’s new album will be available for purchase at the show, so please take a copy home! Riley has generously offered to donate a portion of album sales to benefit the Bluegrass Heritage Foundation’s Play It Forward! Free Instrument Lending Program.
About Riley Gilbreath
Riley Gilbreath is a bluegrass and country musician whose influences include Ralph and Carter Stanley, J.D. Crowe & The New South, Keith Whitley, and Harley Allen. Riley began playing banjo at age 12 with a loaner banjo from the Bluegrass Heritage Foundation’s Play it Forward! Free Instrument Lending Program.
After playing for one year, the Bluegrass Heritage Foundation and Steve Huber of Huber Banjos presented Riley with a new Huber banjo on stage at the Bloomin’ Bluegrass Festival. After playing for 3 years he won the Texas State Banjo Championship at age 15, the Oklahoma State Banjo Championship the next year, and at age 21 won the SPBGMA International Band Championship in Nashville, Tennessee.
Some of Riley’s first experiences in music were playing at bluegrass jams and shows such as Pearl Bluegrass Jam in the old school house in Pearl, Texas, the Lillian Texas bluegrass jam, and the Oakdale Park Jam with experienced musicians. At age 14 he was asked to be the banjo player for Cedar Junction Bluegrass and was later asked to join the Pocket Change bluegrass band as a vocalist and lead guitar player alongside his dad.
Riley has developed his own bluegrass and country sound from a blend of his personal influences, which include Keith Whitley, Harley Allen and Larry Sparks’ vocals, and J.D. Crowe and Ralph Stanley’s banjo styles. He has developed his own unique sound on guitar in which he is able to create a hook in the songs he writes and produces to hold the attention of his listeners.
